The Alex Stieda Classic Criterium
Overview
This Criterium route is approximately a kilometer long, and will be run as a points race, with overall omnium points at stake. The Citizens category event will open the day's races with a scratch race format (first across the line wins). Race Details
This race will be run in the counter-clockwise direction.
A motorcycle will be leading the race out to keep the course clear and safe for spectators and racers.
Points Race Format
The 2024 Stieda Classic is a 2 event omnium. You must start each event to be eligible for omnium placing.
Omnium points will be awarded every 4 laps.
5, 3, 2 & 1 points to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th place rider across the line.
DOUBLE POINTS WILL BE AWARDED ON FINAL SPRINT (10, 6, 4, & 2).
The bell will be rung at the beginning of each sprint/point lap.
The same bell will be used to signify the final lap. Keep your eye on the lap board.
Riders that lap the field will be awarded 20 omnium points
Riders that get lapped by the field will lose 20 omnium points (or be pulled)

In the case of a crash or mechanical difficulty you must report to the commissaire in the wheel pit. Do not return to the wheel pit against the grain of the race.
No free laps will be given for mechanical incidents that occur in the last 3 laps of the race.

Parking
Park in the green zones marked in the Google Map. Avoid upsetting residents by parking in front of their driveways or houses. The City of Edmonton has stipulated that parking vehicles in the River Valley Capitol Hill field is not permitted. Motorists must park on a road
Parking inside the course is at a premium and you may be denied access depending on the time of day and the pace of the races.
Team Tents
Tents should be setup in the yellow zone marked on the map. Do not setup tents on 139 Street or on the sidewalks. Emergency services will be using this area and must not be blocked in any way.
Race Package Pickup
Race package pickup & sign-on will open at 09:00 at the ABA tent. Most riders will have already picked up their packages on Saturday. We do not expect a long queue.
A $10 fee will be charged for replacement numbers (bring cash).
Failure to sign the startup will result in fines.
Race Timing Chip
The race timing chip will be securely attached to your cycle. Chips are not to be placed on the rider's body. At the conclusion of your race return to the ABA tent to return your numbered chip to the chip curtain. Secure your chip & strap to its correct numbered location in the curtain. Participants who lose their chip, or fail to return the timing chip, will be invoiced $75 by the ABA for the replacement cost.
If you fail to return your Race Timing Chip strap by the end of the weekend, you will be charged $75 to fund the replacement.
Number Placement
Two jersey numbers and a frame plate.
Number placement on the jersey is on the right shoulder and lower back.
Wheel Pit
The wheel pit is located west of the finish area. It is a rider’s responsibility to supply their own wheels identified with a race number. We will have a marshal in the pit making sure that wheels are checked in/out accordingly. Remember that wheels are NOT neutral, you must only take a wheel with your race number on it.
Do not forget to grab your wheels at the end of the race.
Food and Refreshments
Laurier Height Community League will be hosting a BBQ (11:00-13:00 approximately). Bring cash!
First Aid & Emergency Services
An ambulance and several paramedics will be on the course. The nearest hospital is the Misericordia Community Hospital.
End Of Race Celebrations
Please be patient while officials and organizers tally the points to determine race winners. Note that Zone 4 will have the finish order only. Criterium points and omnium points will need to be tablulated.
Podium Presentations
Results and podium presentations will be held near the finish line =- look for the ABA trailer and Morgan Construction backdrop.

Prizing will be determined after registration closes and will be posted at the sign-on area

This event will be part of the Alberta Provincial Road Series with series and upgrade points available according to the ABA Points Schedule B:
